AIDA Cruises cancels cruises after IT failure

The cruise operator AIDA Cruises is currently experiencing massive IT problems. In a short Facebook post from the brand of the Italian company Costa Crociere, it is said that the company is “affected by IT restrictions” and “currently not available to customers by phone or email”. Since this is the Include communication with vacationerswho wanted to set sail on the ships AIDAperla from December 26th and AIDAmar from December 27th, the journey is not possible and the trips would have to be canceled.

Holidaymakers who are currently on the ships, report according to “Spiegel”that many IT systems had also failed there, including the on-board information and booking system as well as resources for the entertainment program. As far as possible, paper and pen are used, but many excursions and the shows have been completely canceled. On the Cruise blog “Cruisetricks” it was said that the current cruises would still be completed, but in the case of the AIDAmar with a shortened route.

The cause of the IT failures is still unknown; There is currently neither concrete evidence nor confirmation from AIDA for speculation about a hacker attack. The nautical safety of the ships is not affected by the problems. According to AIDA, anyone who has booked one of the canceled trips will not only be reimbursed the price of the trip, but also a voucher for a new trip for the same amount.
