“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”: Ubisoft shows first gameplay scenes

Ubisoft has released the first gameplay trailer for “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla”. It shows several minutes of game scenes from the upcoming action role-playing game. The video shows, among other things, the combat system and a siege battle.

In 2020, the E3 will take place purely digitally. Developers like CD Projekt, Sony and Nintendo are showing their games in a live stream instead of on stage. heise online collects the most important new announcements and developments.

According to its own statements, Ubisoft has revised the combat system for “Valhalla”. In the trailer it looks at least a little more down-to-earth than the oversubscribed system from the two predecessors “Odyssey” and “Origins”. The main character Eivor fights primarily with hammers, axes and spears, but players should also be able to go into battle with one shield per hand.

According to Ubisoft, there are more types of opponents in “Valhalla” than with previous offshoots in the series, which traditionally revolves around the eponymous assassins. In “Valhalla”, as in the case of the two predecessors, the focus is on large carnages. Ubisoft brings back a sneak mechanic from the earlier parts: players can now hide again in groups of people. The graphics quality leaves a conflicting impression. Ubisoft has beautifully staged the nature of the British Isles, but facial animations look out of date.

The release date is new: “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” will be released on November 17th, probably before the release of the new console generation. For the time being “Valhalla” will be available for PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Stadia, later PS5 and Xbox Series X will follow. If you buy “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” for Xbox One or PS4, you can play the versions optimized for the successor console for free . The PC version is distributed via Uplay and the Epic Games Store.

“Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” is developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind Origins. Players take on the role of the Viking “Eivor”. At the beginning, “Valhalla” takes place in Norway, then in the course of the game you have to conquer living space in England. According to Ubisoft, players should also build their own settlement and accumulate political power. In addition, decisions should affect the game world.
