Ban on Tiktok in Pakistan lifted

A court has lifted the blockade of the popular Chinese video app Tiktok in Pakistan. The Peshawar High Court announced on Thursday. At the same time he instructed the telecommunications authority PTA to take measures so that “vulgar and offensive content” is not uploaded to the platform.

Around three weeks ago, Pakistan banned Tiktok for the second time in less than a year because it did not filter out immoral content in accordance with local laws. After the blockade in October, the restriction was reportedly lifted under pressure from China.

In the past, the Pakistani authorities had asked Tiktok and other video platforms to regulate content more strictly. In September, authorities took several dating apps offline, including Tinder and Grindr. Critics see it as censorship.
