Nationwide control of motorway guidance systems
One of two control centers for the “intelligent highway” with less traffic jams and more security is currently being built in Dresden’s previous tunnel control center. Unlike previously, the control systems on motorways will no longer be controlled individually by each federal state. In the past, it was often the case that drivers were sent directly to a traffic jam that was beyond a national border. This should be better coordinated in the future. The nationwide network should be operational from the end of September and officially start on January 1, 2021. Around 35 million euros will go into the construction.
Corona decelerates Ariane 6 European missile
At the earliest in the second half of 2021, the European Ariane 6 rocket will have its maiden launch. This is a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Although only a part of the manufacturing facilities of the manufacturer ArianeGroup was closed, and only for a short time, the work processes had to be redesigned. In order to allow gaps between the working people, fewer people are present in the workshops. That brakes. After all, the project is on track in terms of costs; Ariane 6 is said to cost 40 percent less than its predecessor Ariane 5. Originally, the new rocket was to take off from ESA’s Kourou spaceport this year.
Sony joins Epic Games
Sony bought shares in game developer Epic Games for $ 250 million. The investment is intended to deepen the existing collaboration, according to a joint press release. So far, games from Epic Games, especially the battle royale shooter Fortnite, had appeared on various gaming platforms. VentureBeat writes that nothing should change after the investment by Sony. The cooperation also offers Sony and Epic opportunities beyond game content: Epic Games has started to broadcast films and concert appearances in Fortnite. It is conceivable that content from Sony’s subsidiaries Sony Pictures and Sony Music will be seen or heard there in the future.
Google shows new smart home speakers
Google has released a photo and a short clip of an upcoming smart speaker. An interesting detail: In one scene, a halved version of the Google speaker seems to be lying on a table – without cables. It is conceivable that one side of the speaker can be removed and used in battery mode. This is also indicated by a clearly visible seam. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
