Caching server down: Lieferando customers see external data


Lieferando customers were able to see third-party data at the weekend. On Sunday morning there were problems with the caching server, confirms the parent company Takeaway when asked by heise online. The server was down for a short time, which resulted in customers being shown incorrect information – including name, email address and address.

The company has not yet announced how many customers were affected. It is also still pending whether the problem has to be reported to the data protection authority.

Recently there had been complaints that tips would not reach the drivers since they could be given via the app or website. However, the Lieferando manager Jörg Gerbig stated that the company would forward 100 percent of the tips directly. Restaurants that have their own drivers receive the money and are asked to pass it on. Lieferando employs 4,500 drivers in Germany, and they only deliver 10 percent of orders – so 90 percent of the trips go through the restaurants.
