Cloud Next: Google also cancels virtual replacement conference

Google has postponed the virtual replacement event planned after the cancellation of Cloud Next for an indefinite period. The company was guided by concerns about the safety and health of customers and employees, a short message said on Tuesday. Google's cloud division emphasizes that the "Google Cloud Next ‘20: Digital Connect" should take place at a later date. The date has not yet been fixed.

Google had canceled its major cloud conference, which was due to take place in San Francisco from April 6-8, two weeks ago due to the global spread of the corona virus, but announced that it would conduct it via video stream. In view of the instructions from the California authorities, this is apparently no longer possible. In San Francisco, people are currently only allowed to leave the house for important errands.

Shortly after the Cloud Next was canceled, the company had to cancel the Google I / O developer conference, and a virtual replacement is also planned for the I / O. So far, Google has not announced anything to the contrary. In view of the changing situation every day, the last word on I / O should not have been spoken. The same applies to Microsoft's build. The major developer conference was canceled last week and is now scheduled to take place online.

Most recently, Nvidia had announced an online keynote to replace the canceled GPU Technology Conference, but then canceled it. The organizers of numerous other tech events, which are to be relocated from the conference stage to the Internet, will continue to monitor the situation closely. In Germany, the organizers of re: publica announced last week that they would postpone the network policy conference planned for May. A digital alternative should be developed for the original appointment.
