The British developer studio just bought by Codemasters Slightly Mad works another racing game based on the movie series Fast and Furious. The subtitle Crossroads for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Windows PC is slated for release in May 2020 – roughly at the same time as the next film, which is currently celebrating its German premiere on May 21, 2020. The publisher is Bandai Namco, the film studio Universal Pictures is also involved in the project.
Fast and Furious Crossroads offers an action-based campaign in which players drive their cars to multiple locations around the world to blow up an international spy ring. Raids are obviously a relatively important element – the developers have not yet said exactly how they happened. Multiplayer is planned, information about it is also not yet available.
Digital versions of some of the actors from the films appear in the campaign. Vin Diesel can be seen again as Dom, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty and Tyrese Gibson as Roman. There are also Sonequa Martin-Green from Star Trek Discovery and Asia Kate Dillon from John Wick 3.
The project is also interesting because it originates from a very experienced developer studio and could be more than just another medium-sized film implementation. Slighty Mad is already behind the really good racing game series Project Cars and produced the neat Shift for Shift and Shift 2 for Electronic Arts.
At the end of November 2019, it was announced that the studio would be taken over by the much larger competitor Codemasters. The purchase price is at least $ 30 million. If a number of goals are met, the final amount could even be around $ 166 million.
