In theory, all content on Apple TV + is available in either Full HD or 4K, if the respective device supports it. However, the current resolution seems to be much lower. 9to5Mac writes that Apple is currently going down to 670p.

There should also be more artifact formation than usual. However, we could not determine this in our test.

Coronavirus network utilization

The reason for the quality reduction is probably the potential network overload due to the crisis caused by the corona virus. Numerous employees have been sent to the home office worldwide, and residents are encouraged to stay at home if possible. There are curfews in some countries.

Traffic has increased accordingly. With the increased use of high-definition video material from various streaming providers, some politicians fear that the networks may collapse. Accordingly, the other streaming providers Amazon, Netflix and Youtube have already announced that they will reduce the quality of their streams.

On YouTube, however, we observe that videos continue to be shown in Full HD and even 4K. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the quality reduction is not universal and is present in all regions. It is conceivable that the quality will be adjusted more than usual to the general utilization of the networks in the respective countries. It can be assumed that Apple and the other streaming providers also handle this accordingly.
