In response to the coronavirus crisis and closed cinemas worldwide, Disney has decided not to bring the feature film Artemis Fowl to the cinema. Instead, it will appear on the Disney + streaming service on June 12, 2020, which the Hollywood studio has on Twitter announced. However, the film will not be available in all countries.
Artemis Fowl will be available in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy and the Netherlands, according to Disney on Twitter. Accordingly, paying subscribers to Disney + (test) will not receive the film in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Spain. With the corresponding Twitter announcement, users are annoyed and express their lack of understanding that not all countries are treated equally here. Inquiries from Twitter users on the subject were not answered by Disney. When asked by Golem.de, the Hollywood studio said that the Coronavirus crisis made it difficult to locate Artemis Fowl at the moment. The film will therefore only be made available at Disney + in Germany at a later date.
Since Disney owns all rights to Artemis Fowl, this shouldn't be the reason why the film won't be released on Disney + on June 12, 2020 in some countries. Originally, it was supposed to be released in the US in August 2019 and in German cinemas in October 2019. However, these dates have been canceled and a theatrical release is planned for May 29, 2020 in the USA and on June 11, 2020 for Germany.
US customers also preferred for other films
In the past, Disney had particularly delighted US customers with special promotions that excluded German subscribers. For example, the animated film Frozen at Disney + in the USA has been around since March 17, 2020, while German subscribers will only receive the film on July 24, 2020. And on April 3, 2020, Onward was released at Disney + in the United States – subscribers in Germany don't even have an appointment for the film.
A change has already been made to the German version of Disney +. For a week now there has been an area on the main page for new content that was initially missing. The content in the look-ahead area can still not be edited afterwards.
Disney + in Germany still with errors
Almost four weeks after the start of Disney + in Germany (test), subscription customers still have to deal with errors. A German soundtrack is missing for several titles: These include the films The Cat from Space, Herbie goes crazy, Robin Hood and his daring fellows from 1952 and the short film The Honey Thief. The Marvel series X-Men from 1992 also lacks a German soundtrack. It is not known whether these errors will be corrected.

By the end of May 2020, Disney plans to correct the wrong aspect ratio for most of the Simpsons' seasons. There is another mistake in the German offering from Disney + at Simpsons: Season 21 has 23 episodes at Disney + 24 instead of 23 because the episodes are not numbered correctly. After the tenth episode follows the twelfth instead of the eleventh. It is not known when this will be corrected.
The Simpsons are not the only TV series where Disney changed the page format from 4: 3 to 16: 9. The result is missing image information at the top and bottom. This affects the TV series Chip and Chap, Goofy and Max as well as Arielle, the Mermaid. So far, Disney has not commented on whether the incorrect format is also corrected for this content.
Arielle only with new synchronization
Disney also causes a lot of trouble for the fans Arielle the mermaid. At Disney +, Arielle is only available with the German re-dubbed version from 1998, which basically changed everything about the film – even the sometimes popular songs have been given a new text. Many fans of the film therefore don't like them. Disney also offers the film on disc with the original 1990 dubbing. Disney + subscribers will also receive the original dubbing of the film later, but no date has yet been fixed.
The Disney series DuckTales is still incomplete. There is only the first season, but at least it is now fully available. Initially, only 15 of the 25 episodes were present. However, the order of the episodes is not correct in some places. If you want to see the series in chronological order, you have to inform yourself about it otherwise.
Children's profile at Disney + with errors
The children's profile at Disney + also still has errors. This way, content is hidden without age restriction. Titles like Vaiana, Everything is upside down or Finding Dorie are missing, while Finding Nemo could be viewed with an activated children's profile. The reason: Disney is currently using the US rating and not the FSK rating. Actually, all content up to FSK 6 should be included in the children's profile. This error should be corrected, but so far this has not happened.
Apart from the FSK rating, Disney does not take any other parameters into account, although the company, as the rights holder, knows very well what content it has on subscription. So with activated child profile there are still titles like Dumbo or Bambi, although both films can be disturbing to young children because they find it difficult to process the experiences in the films.
With older films like Splash – A virgin on the hook scenes from Disney are sometimes edited. The film with an FSK-6 rating shows Daryl Hannah's exposed buttocks in one scene. That was probably too much nudity for Disney and the buttocks area was digitally covered so that the buttocks are no longer visible.
Addendum from April 17, 2020, 2:25 p.m.
Artemis Fowl will also appear on Disney + in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at a later date. Due to the corona virus crisis, the Hollywood studio could not complete the localization, Disney said on request. It is also planned to make the original dubbing of Arielle, the Mermaid available to Disney + subscribers. When that happens is not known. We have revised the report in the appropriate places.
