After a technical disturbance in the authorities mail system in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Saxony-Anhalt all affected offices should be accessible again starting from Monday. Only in individual cases, there could still be problems, said a spokesman for the IT service provider Dataport on Sunday. The cause of the breakdown was a configuration error that had made itself felt on Friday afternoon.

Most citizens are likely to have heard nothing of the disorder. Only in Hamburg opened the city administration for the first time on a Saturday a customer center, in which residents passport and reporting matters can do. Many citizens used the opportunity, as a DPA photographer observed. The 20 employees of the Customer Center Hamburg-Mitte apparently did not have technical problems.

Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD) tweeted after a visit to the customer center, the Saturday opening was trouble-free and started with satisfied citizens. By telephone, the so-called Hamburg service was not available on the weekend. Cause could have been the IT breakdown, said the Dataport spokesman.

In addition to the mail system, internal procedures were also affected, for example in the local registration offices. These systems should be ramped up step by step over the weekend. The IT service provider with data centers in Hamburg-Alsterdorf and Norderstedt (Kreis Segeberg) is also responsible for the tax administration in Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. However, this had not been affected because it was running over another data center, explained the Dataport spokesman.
