While the emergency services in the forest fire areas are hoping for rain, other areas of Russia have too much of it. After heavy rainfall, there were floods in villages and towns along the Black Sea coast and on the Crimean peninsula over the weekend.
Japan: After torrential rain also in Japan, eight people were rescued from a landslide in Nagano prefecture, as the media reported on Sunday. Three of them, including two children, were diagnosed with “cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest”. This is a common phrase in Japan before death is officially confirmed. A woman had previously died in a landslide on the hard-hit southwestern main island of Kyushu.
In the Tokyo metropolitan area, tens of thousands of households were called on Sunday to seek safety from the masses of water. Around 100,000 people were affected in Tokyo’s neighboring province of Kanagawa.
