The Deutsche Post subsidiary Streetscooter has started a recall for 12,000 electric transporters. The reason: There have been several fires in recent years, the cause of which has now been clarified: It is a design defect in the area of the low-voltage charger and in the insulation of a cable harness due to corrosion. This could lead to smoke and fire. The news magazine has about that first Focus reported.
More than 12,000 electric transporters of the types Streetscooter Work and Work L are affected. The Federal Motor Transport Authority was activated, which prompted the official recall to the workshops. Vehicles of the above types from the years of construction 2014 to 2019 are affected, as on KFZ-Rueckruf.de is to be experienced.
Most recently, one of the vans caught fire in Bochum in January 2020. The vehicle fire damaged a building, and no people were injured. The manufacturer’s vehicles also burned in Singen and Teuchern in Saxony-Anhalt. The cause of the fire could not be clarified in all cases.
At the end of February 2020, Deutsche Post announced that it would discontinue production of the Streetscooter electric delivery van. The search for a partner or buyer was unsuccessful.
Günther Schuh then criticized Deutsche Post’s decision. Schuh is one of the inventors of the street scooter and the founder and boss of the electric car manufacturer e.Go Mobile. The manufacturer had to file for bankruptcy as a result of the corona crisis.
