Entry-level smartphones with a thick battery: Wiko introduces View 5 and View 5 Plus

You don’t have to do without a large display with entry-level smartphones below the 200 euro mark: the European manufacturer Wiko has presented its IFA innovations, the new edition of the View series. View 5 and 5 Plus are coming onto the market as an attractive overall package – at least on paper, we haven’t been able to test the devices yet. In addition to the large display, they score with a quadruple camera, dual SIM and 5000 mAh battery, which should enable three days of use. The devices are delivered with Android 10.

Externally, 5 and 5 Plus can only be distinguished by their color. Despite the name addition, the 5 Plus is physically no bigger than the View 5, but it comes with better storage facilities (4/128 GB instead of 3/64 GB), which is about the differences. A microSD card with a maximum of 256 GB can be used by both devices. The showpiece is the 6.55 inch IPS panel. The HD + resolution (1600 x 720 pixels) ensures a pixel density of 267 dpi. In contrast to the previous model View 4, the front camera is not located in a centrally placed notch, but is housed in a circular recess.

Compared to its predecessor, the rear camera setup has grown by one lens. A wide-angled main camera (48 megapixels) is supported by an ultra-wide angle. The other lenses collect depth information and are responsible for macro shots. Wiko has also given the smartphones a night mode – whether it will bring anything remains to be seen. It had no significant effect on the predecessor. In contrast to the 5000 mAh battery, which Wiko also used for the View 4 and which thus achieved very long runtimes. In the case of the 5 series, the company wants to have improved this again.

The View 5 and 5 Plus are driven by an eight-core MediaTek SoC. They are charged via USB-C, and a headphone jack is also on board. Wiko delivers both smartphones in a bundle with the We Shake Pocket true wireless in-ear headphones. The View 5 is available in blue, green and gold and costs 170 euros. For the Plus version available in silver and blue, Wiko calls for 200 euros. Both models will be available in stores from September 10th.
