Apple presented the iPad Pro 2021 on Tuesday evening, it is now the fifth generation of professional tablets. Externally, the angular design that was introduced in 2018 is still available in two sizes with a screen diagonal of 11 inches and 12.9 inches (see also Mac & i-Liveticker). The unlocking takes place as usual via face recognition (Face ID).
M1-Chip mit Thunderbolt-Support
The fast M1 chip that Apple recently introduced in the first Macs is now also in the iPad. The eight-core processor with eight-core GPU provides an increase in processor performance of up to 50 percent and a GPU that is 40 percent faster than the 2020 iPad Pro, according to the manufacturer. The storage facility is also connected much faster again.
The models with 128, 256 and 512 GB are equipped with 8 GB RAM, the 1 TB and the new 2 TB versions with 16 GB RAM. It is the first time that Apple has given the information about the size of the RAM on the iPad itself.
Just like the latest Macs, the new iPad Pro supports Thunderbolt and USB 4 at the same time – a novelty for tablets. This allows peripherals to be connected more quickly, and displays with up to 6K are also supported, including Apple’s Pro Display XDR. Details about improved monitor support have not yet been given.
Apple iPad Pro
A camera improved by an image signal processor and Neural Engine now supports Apple’s Smart HDR 3, which automatically combines multiple exposures. Even in poor lighting conditions, processing should now deliver better results. Apple has also integrated an ultra-wide-angle camera on the front of the iPad, which can automatically follow people’s perspective during video calls and automatically adjusts the section.
Display with mini LED technology
With a backlight of over 10,000 mini-LEDs, Apple brings certain specifications of its Pro display to the 12.9 “LCD of the iPad: The manufacturer promises a brightness of up to 1000 cd / m2 and with the” Liquid Retina XDR “screen up to 1600 cd / m2 in peak for HDR content. The contrast ratio is given as 1,000,000: 1.
The new 11 “iPad Pro is offered in the smallest version with 128 GB of storage space at a price of 880 euros – without cellular support. The starting price of the 12.9” iPad Pro is 1200 euros. The top model with 2 TB of storage space and cellular connection for the first time (now also with 5G support) costs 2580 euros. The new iPads will go on sale from the second half of May, and pre-orders will be possible from April 30th.
