Fitness +: Apple brings fitness subscription service to Germany

Apple has introduced its fitness service Fitness + in new countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland – but without hiring trainers who give their courses in the local language. The fitness videos are only available in English, including with German subtitles, as Apple announced on Wednesday. The service is now offered in a total of 21 countries.

The use of Fitness + requires an Apple Watch and a subscription: The service costs 10 euros per month or 80 euros if paid annually and can be tested free of charge for at least one month. It is also part of the Apple One “Premium” bundle, which has recently become available in this country. As with Apple’s other services, a subscription for Fitness + can be used by up to six people as part of the family share.

Fitness + is designed for home training, other equipment apart from the watch is usually not required. In the videos, which can be played on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, certain exercises are demonstrated, trainers guide you through the sports program – including high-intensity interval training (HIIT), strength, core, yoga, dancing, Pilates and cool down. There are also guided workouts on fitness equipment such as rowing machines, ergometers / indoor bikes and treadmills. Heart rate and movement are recorded solely by the Apple Watch, a direct connection to the exercise bikes is not provided.

In addition to special workouts for beginners, seniors and pregnant women, Fitness + also provides audio content for walks and videos about guided meditation. The offer is to be constantly expanded; recently, for example, training units for skiers have been added. There are no live training units so far. Apple emphasized that you can train or meditate with friends via FaceTime and SharePlay.
