Geoff Keighley invited to the Gamescom opening: In the livestream for the official start of Gamescom, the presenter and guests from the participating development studios showed 40 games, including highly anticipated titles such as “Halo Infinite”, “Call of Duty Vanguard” and the new “Saints Row” “, about which there had been numerous rumors in the run-up to the show.
The most important games and news from the Gamescom opening at a glance:
“Saints Row” games are somewhat reminiscent of “GTA” on LSD. The most recent title, “Saints Row: Gat out of Hell”, was released in 2015. After a long break, the crazy open world series is now back with the new offshoot simply called “Saints Row”, which is again being developed by Volition. At Gamescom, a colorful and explosive render trailer was shown first before a few seconds of gameplay teasers could be seen. “Saints Row” is to appear on February 25, 2022 – on the PC, probably exclusively in the Epic Games Store.
Another “Marvel” video game: After the release of “Marvel’s Avengers” and the announcement of “Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy” comes “Midnight Suns”, which is being developed by Firaxis Entertainment. The game, shown in a render trailer, will hit the market in March 2022. In addition to characters known from the Marvel universe, the hero line-up also includes characters they have designed themselves. The developers, who are best known for the “XCOM” series, describe “Midnight Suns” as a tactical role-playing game. It is unclear whether the Marvel game will be played similarly to the “XCOM” title from a bird’s eye view – there were no gameplay scenes.
“Call of Duty Vanguard”
With “Vanguard” the “Call of Duty” series returns to the Second World War. After the announcement last week, developer Sledgehammer has now shown an excerpt from Stalingrad in the single-player campaign, in which, among other things, a bread knife makes its big appearance. The new series offshoot is to deal with a total of four different theaters of war, in which one slips into the role of three soldiers and one female soldier on the side of the Allies. In addition to the western and eastern fronts, one should also fight on the Pacific and in North Africa.
Microsoft, which actually hosted its Gamescom stream yesterday, has saved its jewel for the bigger stage: “Halo Infinite”, the shooter with a turbulent development history, will hit the market on December 8th. The paid single-player mode is to appear at the same time as the free-to-play multiplayer mode. On the live stream, Microsoft published a new trailer with pre-rendered scenes on the release date, which is intended to prepare pathetically for the seasonal story of the multiplayer mode. “Halo Infinite” was originally supposed to go on sale for the launch of the Xbox Series X / S, but after negative feedback on a gameplay demo from the community, the start was massively delayed – perhaps that was one reason why 343 Industries did not this time Campaign gameplay showed. Heise online was recently able to try out the preview of the free-to-play multiplayer mode of “Halo Infinite”.
In addition to the game, Microsoft has announced two gamepads and an Xbox Series X in “Halo” design. The fact that you can easily get this special edition in view of the delivery bottlenecks of the next-gen consoles must be doubted.
“Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga”
In the new edition of the “Lego Star Wars” games, the events from all nine films in the main series can be played for the first time – with the typical Lego charm. The “Star Wars” game, which was last postponed in April, has been quiet for a year. Now there is at least another release period: “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” should go on sale in spring 2022.
