Hyundai: Call back due to an error in the parking assistant

Two current Hyundai models in the USA have to go back to the workshop. The South Korean automaker has found a bug in the assistance system that drives a vehicle into a parking space. The vehicles should get a software update.

The assistance system parks a car forward or backward in a parking space that is perpendicular to the direction of travel. The driver does not have to sit in the car. He activates the function by holding a button on the radio key.

In February, Hyundai discovered a fault in the system during a test: In the event that one of the sensors has an error function, the parking process is canceled and the car is stopped. However, the Hyundai testers found that under certain circumstances this fail-safe function was not activated. The vehicle then continued to drive despite faulty sensor data.

That is "extremely rare and difficult to reproduce"Hyundai said the US consumer protection organization Consumer Reports (CR) with. In March, the error occurred in a vehicle in South Korea that was equipped with the faulty software. It did not stop as intended when using the parking assistant. There was no harm or injury to the incident.

The Hyundai Nexo fuel cell vehicle and the 2020 Hyundai Sonata with the parking assistant are affected.
