Local search “Where to?” with AR view, collections and dark mode

“Where?” aka “Where to?” belongs to the classic iPhone apps – shortly after the App Store started, the local search from the German provider FutureTap was already available. The developer has now completed version 11 of the application that competes with Google and Apple and has already won several awards.

“Where?” 11 comes with some decisive innovations as well as a changed business model. The new version has an integrated augmented reality view (AR), which is intended to guide users to their goal in the form of an “X-ray view”. In future, the app will be able to sort favorite places into collections, for example when preparing for a trip, has an integrated public transport route planner, for the first time also a dark mode interface, new context menus and an improved “Add to Siri” function.

A configurable widget can be placed on the home screen in different sizes. “Where?” still ends up in the share menu. There you can also open locations from other apps – such as Google Maps or Booking.com. Reviews now have photos, and there are more details about locations, such as whether they offer delivery and what price range they are. FutureTap also promises more restaurants with menus and integrated reservations; but the offer is still growing. Overall, “Where to?” over 600 place categories to choose from.

Who “where to?” once purchased as a pro version, the app can continue to be used in the premium version for “lifelong”. For new users, however, there is a new business model: In the future, “Where to?” offered as an in-app subscription. Here you can choose between 3 euros per year or 1 euro per quarter. Where? runs on the iPhone, but also has a fully integrated Apple Watch application. This also allows the display of ratings and maps.
