[ad_1]

Mac & i issue 5/2021 is now also available in well-stocked magazine stores – or (temporarily even free of shipping costs) in Heise shop, optionally on paper or as PDF. The topics:

Lots of cool new features in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 15 as well as HomeKit and AirPods are already there – and most users haven’t even noticed. It will soon be similar with macOS 12 Monterey. There have been improvements in many areas, on the Mac for example in the Finder, the power settings and the user interface.

This time, iPad owners in particular benefit from the innovations in iOS 15, for example from the power-saving mode, a new multitasking menu, PDF editing or the better app switcher. But the iPhone also gets practical features with drag & drop, printer settings, NTFS support, live text and other widgets.

Apple Watch owners can look forward to new functions, for example for sharing contacts, photos and reviews. Hand gestures help with operation, messages can now be edited better and the location function now finds people, lost Apple devices and AirTags. For HomeKit users, there are long-awaited detailed improvements in automations and cameras. Apple TV owners get better recommendations and enjoy 3D sound with Apple headphones. Mac & i gives 76 tips on 29 pages, where you can find the important improvements and how you can benefit from them.

heise online readers are already familiar with the preliminary test reports of the iPhone 13 and iPad 9 / iPad mini 6, but the editorial staff were able to deal with the devices much more intensively for the detailed test report in the magazine. With the iPhone, Apple focused on the camera, display, battery life and chip so that the 2021 generation shines over its predecessors. But what do the innovations bring in practice, which users benefit noticeably – and who can skip the new acquisition? Mac & i reveals it.

Apple has also improved its two cheapest tablets – not only equipped with faster chips, but also made them fit for the home office with better front cameras. So much in advance: The Pad mini 6 steals the show from the iPad 9, and not just with a new case. What you should think of the total of six new iOS devices can be found in issue 5/2021.

Countless audio streaming services are now vying for the favor of customers. Almost all of them offer an almost identical number of songs, but they are not always available in uncompressed quality (lossless). Where should the music lover access it? Mac & i compared Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify. Not only their repertoires played a role, but also the sound quality, the operation of the apps and special features such as audio books, podcasts or exclusive content.

E-bikes are becoming more and more popular, including among younger audiences. For technology enthusiasts, there are also copies with a suitable app that can be used to change settings, navigate or save routes. In the test, six city, trekking and mountain bikes from 2000 euros show how well they ride and for whom they are suitable. Including three spartan, lightweight models with a rear-wheel motor for the city: the Ampler Curt, the Angell and the Cowboy 3. The chic VanMoof S3 city bike is the only one equipped with a front motor. Two participants will be taking part with the mid-engine that is most popular with buyers: the KTM Machina Style 610 touring bike with a Bosch Performance Line CX and the Merida eBIG.Tour 700 EQ with Shimano EP8.

If you are looking for a monitor for the Mac mini or MacBook, you do not need to use the very expensive Apple displays. Devices from other manufacturers also show a sharp picture and can be transformed into a docking station for MacBooks with a single USB cable. They also give other Macs and even iPads an expanded workspace. Mac & i has tested five high-resolution monitors with USB-C connection and dock, the 4K monitors HP U28, LG Ultrafine 32UN880-B and Philips Brilliance 329P1H as well as two extra-wide, curved displays with aspect ratios of 21: 9 and 24:10, respectively, the C3422W from Dell and the EV3895 from Eizo.
