Messenger put to the test, high-end headphones, low code | c’t uplink 37.2

The weekly c’t podcast c’t uplink is available …

Everyone wants to get away from WhatsApp, but what is the best alternative? After our XXL episode on WhatsApp a few weeks ago, Sylvester Tremmel and some colleagues in c’t dealt extensively with the messenger apps and tested them for security, convenience and functionality. In addition to the classics Telegram, Threema and Signal, this time the Messenger Wire, which is popular with c’t-uplink listeners, is also there. Another exciting alternative is Element: It is based on the Matrix protocol and also runs on a self-hosted server. The colleagues identified differences between the apps primarily in the variety of functions – and in dealing with metadata, for example who was talking to whom and when.

Hartmut Gieselmann produces music in his spare time and therefore has a weakness for expensive headphones. In the 8/2021 issue of c’t he tested six models for 1,500 to 2,000 euros – and said: The price is worth it! The 60,000 euro headphones that he could try out and test at Sennheiser, on the other hand, would also be too expensive for him. In the program, he explains what to look for when buying headphones and what technology is used in the models from Hedd, Hifiman & Co.

A large number of different online services with which you can click together small programs, databases or entire apps and websites are gathered under the keywords Low Code and No Code. Jo Bager introduces some platforms and uses the example of Airtable to show how a small database can be created with it in just a few steps.
