If you want a color other than silver for your Tesla electric pick-up, you have to be prepared for the fact that the vehicle is not delivered painted, but only covered with foil.
This process has also been common for normal bodies for many years. For example, many taxis in Germany are only covered with a film in light ivory. The advantage of foiling: the color can be changed by peeling off the stickers without the vehicle having to be repainted.
At Tesla, the problem is somewhere else: Since the truck is made of cold-rolled, hardened steel, a durable paint job would probably be very complex and too expensive for everyday use.
Tesla boss Elon Musk now revealed the secret on Twitter: "You can wrap it in any color or pattern".
The Cybertruck is to be delivered with different configurations with a view to the battery and drive train. The simplest version with rear-wheel drive has a range of 400 km, the twin-engine all-wheel version is said to be able to drive 480 km with one battery charge, the model with three engines has a range of 800 km.
Pricing starts at $ 39,900 for the base rear-wheel drive model. The all-wheel drive vehicle will be offered for $ 49,900, the three-engine model will cost $ 69,900.
The first cyber trucks are to be delivered at the end of 2021, and the top models should be available at the end of 2022. It is not yet possible to say whether the corona pandemic is messing up the schedule.
