The show was a virtual world premiere, said the Jarre press office. So far, virtual music events have been pre-produced and inserted into existing digital worlds, the announcement continues. Jarre present his performance live in his own customized virtual reality.

“After performing in exceptional locations, virtual reality now allows me to play in unimaginable spaces while standing on a physical stage,” explains the French electric legend. The aim of the project is to show that VR, AR and AI can contribute to a new type of artistic expression and can maintain the encounter between artists and the public in the health crisis.

For the worldwide live broadcast, who can be followed on PC, tablet, smartphone and VR headsets, 71-year-old Jarre has chosen the “Fête de la Musique”, an event where musicians perform free of charge in public spaces. In Germany, the “Day of Music” (which has been taking place annually since 2009) has been celebrated on June 21, 2019 in Germany. The broadcast starts at 9:15 p.m. (with material from dpa)
